Two arrested for North Spokane kidnapping, assault

Major Crimes detectives are investigating a kidnapping and assault in north Spokane after officers responded to a 9-1-1 call around 5:30 a.m. at a home in the 4600 block of North Lincoln.

The young woman, described by police as a "juvenile," said she escaped after being held there overnight. Police say the woman was held against her will and may have been assaulted; now they're working to understand exactly what happened early Monday morning..

They don't believe this was a random incident.

"At about 5:30 this morning a we got a call that a lady had escaped from a residence over on Lincoln and she said that she had been kidnapped," Spokane Police Officer Lydia Pritchard said. "Officers responded and contacted her and she showed them the residence that she had escaped from"

The woman's story seemed to check out and officers took two suspects -- 27-year-old Keila Chapman and 30-year-old Merriah Wernsdofer -- in for questioning. The female victim was also taken in for questioning.

Along with being kidnapped she claimed she was also assaulted but police knew that probably wasn't the entire story.

"We believe she had been assaulted and kidnapped at this point we do not believe it was a random incident and was involved with the drug trade," Pritchard said.
