SFCC awarded $1.4 million grant | News
Spokane Falls Community College recently received a $1.4 million grant through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant program . The program is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Labor to expand targeted training programs for unemployed workers.
A total of 59 grants were awarded nationally that will support 190 projects in 183 schools in nearly every state. In Washington, Spokane Falls was one of two schools who received a grant. Bellingham Technical College was awarded a $2.7 million grant.
The grants will be used to expand programs in industries such as advanced manufacturing, transportation and healthcare. The U.S. Department of Labor is administering the program alongside the U.S. Department of Education. The course materials developed using the grant money will be available through the Open Educational Resources initiative which will allow others to access and build on successful training models.
