Area high schools help Second Harvest Tackle Hunger | Community Spirit
Area high schools are teaming up with Second Harvest for the Tackle Hunger fund drive this month. Second Harvest's goal is to raise $12,000 through the campaign and the Shadle Park High School DECA chapter will kick things off on Thursday with the first Tackle Hunger football matchup.
Students have been raising money all month for Second Harvest and each participating school has chosen a football game for as their Tackle Hunger match up. At the end of the month, the school that raises the most money will win the coveted Tackle Hunger trophy.
In addition, the two DECA chapters of Tackle Hunger will win a scholarship. The first place chapter will win $1,500 and second place will be give $500. The scholarships will be distributed to graduating DECA seniors.
Shadle will host the first Tackle Hunger football matchup at their Thursday evening game against North Central High School. Students, faculty and Highlander fans are encouraged to bring donations in exchange for “I Tackled Hunger” mini footballs, wristbands, stickers and tattoos. With just $1 Second Harvest can create about five meals for hungry people in the community.
West Valley will be sponsoring their Tackle Hunger matchup when they take on Cheney on October 25th.
