Hillyard Appreciation Day festival this weekend | Arts & Culture
Hoopfest is the main attraction this weekend, but if you're looking for something with a slower pace, why not check out Hillyard Appreciation Day on Saturday?
“The idea of Appreciation Day is this is the one day where we don't charge for anything. This is where we give back and say 'Thank you,'” said festival founder and business owner Richard Burris.
Burris owns a wine and beer shop called The Good Stuff, located on Market in the Hillyard neighborhood. He says he came up with the festival three years ago because he wanted to do something fun during the month of June.
“We'll have the Spokane Hot Rod association down here. We're going to close all the side streets and we'll probably have 75 to 100 cars down here. And we'll have the tents set up on Queen and Market. We're going to give away prizes and have raffles and it's just a fun day,” Burris explained.
There are plenty of businesses on Market to explore, and all of them will have their doors open Saturday with music, food and crafts.
